Rochelle and I took a trip to the coast last weekend. We started off eating breakfast at GJ's. Its was delicious! The best diner in town! She had the biscuits and gravy while I had two open faced beef paties (with a bun on the bottom) smothered in chili and fries on top. Yeah, doesn't that sound good?
We took the scenic route to Newport through Monroe and Philomath. It was a nice drive. As soon as we got to the coast, we went straight for the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Its a pretty cool place to spend a few hours. Keiko the killer whale used to live there. Keiko was the whale from "Free Willy". He's dead now.
They have an exhibit called "Passages of the Deep" which you can walk through Keiko's old swimmin grounds. You walk through this tube underwater with sharks swimming around. Not any really big sharks though. They also have a lot of other cool stuff to look at like an octopus, a bunch of seals and sea lions, jelly fish and lots more. They even have a bird area.
After that we went down to Florence and ate at Mo's. I'm just going to come out and say it. Mo's just isn't that good. I know its an Oregon original with good clam chowder but the place is messy, the staff doesn't care too much about their customers. And the food... well the food was just plain bad. Rochelle found an eyelash in her chowder. My slum gullion (shrimp and chowder) was packed full of the small pink shrimp you find at Safeway. I dont even think they heated the shrimp before they put it in the bowl. Oh well, we probably won't eat there again.
The coast was beautiful! Great weather! Check out the pics!
